Hawaii Youth Helping Youth
Statewide Youth Council for Children’s Mental Health
What is HYHY?
Hawaii Youth Helping Youth (HYHY) is a statewide council for youth ages 14-25 yrs. who have experienced emotional, behavioral and/or mental health challenges or experience with juvenile justice, special education or foster care. HYHY
is youth driven and family guided. Siblings and other family members and friends are also welcome and encouraged to join. HYHY council members meet regularly and share their experiences and together come up with ideas for
making positive change to improve mental health services for children and youth like themselves in Hawaii.
Make a Friend, Be a Friend!
Children’s Mental Health Matters
Friendships are important! HYHY has participated in many community events across the state.  From sign waving at University of Hawaii’s West Oahu campus to sharing thoughts about the importance of friendships at the State Capitol on Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, HYHY youth council members are involved! A big part of Hawaii Youth Helping Youth is raising awareness in the community about Children’s Mental Health and the effects of stigma on children and families. They hope to share the importance of acceptance and just being a friend.
